The Black Dog family consists of some finest Scotch Whiskies. You have the Black Dog Black Reserve blended Scotch, Black Dog Gold Reserve (12 Years) blended Scotch, Black Dog 18 Year old blended Scotch, Black Dog Quintessence (Aged 21 Years) Blended Scotch Whisky. Each of these whiskies is special in its own way but share the same brand name. The more matured the liquid, the better the taste and aroma.

I was hanging out with my friends after a long time. We decided to make it a little special with a celebrated drink, the Black Dog 12 Year Old. Now, there is a fact about this Scotch which is known to only a few of us. The Black Dog 12 Year old blended Scotch was the first and only drink available in Indian markets till 2006. A whisky to be qualified as Scotch, has to be produced and matured in Scotland. But do we know the important areas that contribute to the making of Black Dog. These four regions of Scotland, namely, Speyside, Islay, Highlands and Lowlands provide with different malted whiskies and each of them is matured for at-least 12 years. 

Our Bollywood stars have also mentioned the name Black Dog in their movies. One such instance is the following. In the 1988 Bollywood film Shahenshah, Amrish Puri, playing a don named JK, orders Black Dog whisky and says "Jab bhi mein gori haseeno ko dekhta hoon, mere dil me kale kutte bhaukne lagte hain. Tab mein Black Dog whisky peeta hoon."

The properties of the Black Dog 12 YO blended Scotch can be described as  Amber, with golden colour highlights. The aroma is a robust malty, mellow woody, complex yet delicate aroma of sherry and vanillic sweetness with whispers of soft peatiness in the background. On your tongue it will be beautifully rounded, heavy body, pronounced malty, mellow woody, fruity sweetness with teasing light warm peat. After you gulp the drink you will sense luxurious and exciting, long and warm with a touch of cream.
