How TGR is a truly refined Scotch

Hello friends, hope you had a fun filled weekend. Which version of Black Dog did you relax with. The Black Dog Gold reserve 12YO, Black Dog Black Reserve or the Black Dog Triple Gold Reserve. Black Dog Scotch is one of the premium whiskies which is smoothest and finest in its category. Each sip of a Black Dog drink is to be savoured with care and diligence. Just gulping down the pour will not help you enjoy the taste and wont help to relax either.

We all know, preparing a Scotch takes a long time. Even the starting versions of Whiskies are matured for at least 3 years to get qualified as Scotch. Now, recently you would be hearing more and more about a new variant of Black Dog TGR. The Black Dog TGR stands for Triple Gold Reserve. You must be thinking, Black Dog usually labels its Scotches with the number of years it underwent maturation, but nothing specific is mentioned in the case of TGR. Also, you must be having the question, "What is the difference between a normal Scotch Maturation Process and a Triple maturation process".

Normal Scotch maturation process

Let me guide and help you explain the difference between the two with some small graphic. The first of the images shows the normal Scotch maturation process. It can be seen that the "Matured Single malt" and "Matured Grain whisky" are combined and bottled. There is no maturation process carried out on the mixture. It is bottled and sent to the stores where you and me pick up the Scotch.

Triple Gold reserve maturation process

The second image has a process extra as compared to the first image. The blend of "Matured Single Malt" and "Matured Grain Whisky" is introduced another level of maturation. This maturation is carried out inside a sherry cask. In one of my previous articles, I explained the importance of Sherry casks in the making of Scotch. You can read it here. This additional maturation is the third round of maturation of the liquids and hence the name "Triple Gold Reserve".

The Black Dog TGR is available in  pack sizes of  1 ltr, 750ml, 375ml, 180ml and 60ml. The cost of Black Dog Triple  Gold Reserve in Karnataka @ Rs.2300 for 750ml
